DC peanut allergy dining guide
This guide focuses on places in NorthWest DC (Logan circle area) that are peanut - free or peanut allergy friendly. These are all places we've brought our kids, so I've also noted if they're especially child friendly.
If you're new to dining out with a peanut allergy (as I was when my son was born), we usually avoid Thai, Chinese, and Vietnamese restaurants because peanuts feature very heavily in these cuisines (we now save these for date nights). Japanese (sushi or ramen) and Korean are often okay, but it's worth checking first. I think Indian is usually okay, but he recently outgrew a cashew allergy so it hasn't been on our radar until now (check back for recommendations later). Many American style places will feature desserts with peanuts, but these can often be avoided (definitely mention the allergy though). Finally, we pretty much always avoid ice cream because there's usually a peanut flavor and scoop cross contamination. However, trader Joe's makes great ice cream and it's easy to share a pint as a family (and about 8x cheaper).
